Archive for the ‘metalwork’ Category First, the original aperture had to be removed. Then, a new cap was built from scratch using steel rebar and copper. Finally, the new cap was positioned and soldered to the existing framing members. With wires to reinforce the new cap down the edges of the shade, the new aperture is stronger than ever.  Although the cap may have once stood proud and tall, the undulating brass was not the problem.
